Is Great White Shark Diving Really That Bad?

When I first mentioned the idea of diving with a couple of mates I was pretty surprised to hear that not one of them had been divinfg. So off we went on one of those scuba diving holidays and I have to say that it was absoulty fantastic.

The Destination

We actually went Maldives diving as we thought this to be a great way to start our diving experiences and boy were we right. The coral reefs and sand bars were simply astounding and we certainly spotted our fair share of the 2,000 species of fish that can be found in the area. We also spotted a couple of whale sharks and this is what got me into the whole shark diving mindset.

On Return

When arriving back home I found myself immediately wanting to go back and enjoy all of it again which is why we did 6 months later and then again a year later. By this time I had wanted to see more and the words “Great White” has kept entering my mind. So I put the idea out there to the circle of friends that loved diving, “why don’t we go cage diving with Great Whites?” Some of them thought I was mad and really didn’t want to it and others jumped at the chance.

The Great White

Once you are in I wouldn’t say you calm down but the adrenaline kicks in and you see the creatures for what they are, stunning. I cannot describe the experience we had that day. We have done this now a couple of times and next year I am planning to do it with a couple of them without cages!

Great Whites are not as bad as people think and they have been known to let people touch them and even hold their dorsal fin, always have a professional on hand though!
